Tucked away in the heart of Mornington Peninsula, Merricks Creek Winery is the perfect destination to relax and unwind as the cold Melbourne winter sets in.
Beginning their winemaking journey in 2001, they recently premiered their cellar door; a chic and modern setting where you can wine and dine to your heart’s content.
Upon arriving at the venue, we were greeted with a friendly smile from Peter and his family, who started our serene afternoon with a classic wine tasting of their Pinot Noirs. Peter then kindly took us on a tour of the venue, providing intricate details into his winemaking process.
He proudly calls the winery a ‘hobby gone mad’ and it’s easy to see why – the family run business boasts more than a decade of producing the finest Pinot Noirs, having recently added chardonnay to their exquisite repertoire. They even received a 5 star rating from James Halliday, which is a major achievement in itself.
To complement the wines, the cellar door features a series of rustic sharing plates that cater to everyone’s budgets. From rare eye fillet paired with caper vinaigrette and ciabatta to delectable white chocolate mousse mini pots (our personal favourite), visitors are also treated to a picturesque view of the vineyards while basking in the calming tranquillity.
Indeed, it’s an excellent place to escape all the noise and hubbub of city life. Everything about the venue screams passion for the beauty of wine, from its owners and the food to their vast knowledge of the winemaking industry.
Simply put, it’s well worth the drive and the ideal getaway for any wine-sipping connoisseurs.
