Welcoming the Grand Prix to Melbourne with Tag Heuer

Published in The F:

Melbourne, get ready for a speedy weekend because it’s officially Grand Prix week.

Kicking things off with a bang at Luminare, the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team celebrated their new partnership with Tag Heuer, the historic Swiss watch brand that boasts a heritage of creating stylish watches of superior quality for over a decade.

TAG-Heuer-Grand-Prix-Melbourne-Party-THE-F-Melbourne-8-768x512The epitome of style, élan and panache, Tag Heuer watches are renowned for its edgy prestige and excellent performance, all with a unique avant-garde aesthetic that has helped the brand earn its reputation as a leader in the watch industry ever since the company’s fruition in 1860. So it only made sense for them to be involved in a sport where wit and stamina are put to the ultimate test.

For the first time at the Grand Prix, Tag Heuer is the Official Timekeeper, Official Watch and Team Performance Partner of Red Bull Racing. But the icing on the cake? In a historic first, Tag Heuer has obtained naming rights of the team’s power unit, with this year’s car being officially named the Red Bull Racing-TAG Heuer RB12. Now if that doesn’t sound like the partnership that dreams are made of, we don’t know what is.

Formula 1 racer (and all around gentleman) Daniel Riccardo was the man of the hour and guest of honour at the event, joining in the celebrations alongside MTV host Kate Peck, Masterchef judge George Calombaris, and Real Housewives of Melbourne star Pettifleur Berenger, just to name a few.

Like his father before him, Riccardo has had a love for racing and watches ever since he could remember.

‘My dad said it as well…eventually you will understand that many men love watches and cars so it just goes hand in hand,’ he said.

‘I do love watches and Tag [Heuer] has been around for a long time, so they are very much involved with racing and it’s cool for them to be with us this year. It’s my first real event that we’ve had with them so it’s not a bad start. If more events were like this, I’d be pretty happy.’

Much to our delight because he just naturally radiates awesomeness, Riccardo then took a turn on the DJ turntable with DJ Minx, epitomising Tag Heuer’s motto of ‘Don’t Crack Under Pressure’ as he showed off his secret skills.

Overall, we can’t be more thrilled to see two amazing brands working together, creating magic and giving the audience want they want – a fantastically damn good show filled with sport and swag.
